I think it's even better than a corset because it pulls my thighs and my bottom in and does so with nice support. A girdle fattens my entire belly, not only around the waist, but pulls me in and even holds my upper legs in together.

Yes, yes, it's awkward to get on, but once in a girdle is very comfortable. The waistband is just like wearing a belt, I love the feeling of my belly being supported by the satin front panel while the crease of my bottom disappears and is hidden under my pencil skirt.

My girdle is such great support all day long that I often tend to slouch inside it. And it's awesome to behold with the suspenders (garters) fastened to the tops of my nylons. It gives me a nice hug around my bottom too. I can't wait to get it on mornings. Then, what a gorgeous figure it gives, a figure to die for, the biggest reason for wearing a girdle. I feel totally like a fashion model.Katie Cahillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13589385552723431803noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7953319607326764763.post-81748593208307457362021-04-13T06:46:17.845-07:002021-04-13T06:46:17.845-07:00try adding gores to the sideseams / backtry adding gores to the sideseams / backAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16618287419907242986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7953319607326764763.post-55941308903138049172021-04-11T23:08:33.886-07:002021-04-11T23:08:33.886-07:00This thing is just so pretty. Maybe because the silk Chinese influence didn't cross over to cotton printed in India?

I found some pretty yellow cotton fabric from Cider by Moda and I'm wondering if it works for a gown. I also really like the Jane Austen at Home fabric line from Riley Blake Designs. (Not yellow.) A few seem to work for an 18th century gown...or almost work, if they were less busy? I'm sweeping every fabric store in my area and combing through all the sheets sets I come across as well (including at Ikea, but the best lightweight fabric I can find there right now is pale brown floral on white, and I was hoping for at least a little color).

Moda's Cider:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/ckKjgU8dtECryEt16 (these also come in a deep turquoise)

Riley Blake's Jane Austen at Home:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/TdsbyygALg8G1f2f9
These are inspired by an actual coverlet quilt she made, which I presume could contain some late 18th century fabric.Brittanyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02282126713809465382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7953319607326764763.post-49553320532050274732021-03-10T10:58:39.075-08:002021-03-10T10:58:39.075-08:00I have the same problem. But the grid size is different on the page with the sleeve, so if you go by the grid to measure it out on the fabric, the sleeve will come out too large compared to the other parts. Or maybe we're both doing it wrong? :Pkirehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08012154033791672729noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7953319607326764763.post-69780646980184857462021-03-06T11:37:37.361-08:002021-03-06T11:37:37.361-08:00Arrived to order the Renoirs but ordered the Dunmo...Arrived to order the Renoirs but ordered the Dunmores instead...they're so darn cute! The Strandfrane reminds me of bedsheets from my childhood in the '80s (probably purchased in the '70s). I was hoping for something more colorful like KALKBRÄKEN, which I have been using for other projects (!), but which is home decor-weight fabric and probably too thick and heavy for an Italian gown. I have some historical reproduction-looking printed cotton from my mom's fabric collection that I wanted to make into an 18th century dress, But now I'm starting to question if it is right for the period.
